Empowered by her culture and desire to make a positive impact, member of the month Melanie Jean shares insights on her outlook on success. Whether she is providing knowledge on the importance of homeownership, or serving the community as a mentor, this New York native embodies the Black Excellence rooted in BPN!
1.) Tell us more about yourself, like where you are from and what you do.
I’m Melanie Jean, originally from Brooklyn and currently based in Miami. By day, I work as a People Experience Consultant at Google. As a hobby, I love cycling and plan to get into tennis soon.
2.) What is one of your greatest achievements?
My greatest achievements have been being sure of myself and always working towards what I set as a goal. With this, I’ve been a mentor through various organizations, including BPN. I recently hosted a forum on homeownership, sharing how and why this is critical. I also personally enjoy assisting friends and family on career development. This is just a bit; they’ll be more to come!
3.) Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by my Blackness and my Haitian background. Understanding our culture and knowing that we currently have so much opportunity despite some adversities we may face drives me to persevere in everything I engage in.
4.) How would you like to be remembered?
When it comes to how I’d like to be remembered, I hope people see me as someone who made a positive impact on others and remembered as someone who lived life to the fullest while creating and cultivating genuine connections.
5.) How did you get involved with BPN and why?
With my recent move to Miami, my biggest focus was seeking community and I am thankful to have come across the BPN.
